Two successfully completed new buildings for poultry growing were inaugurated at an open house.

It was a huge success: Recently, the Schedl family invited 4,000 visitors to an open house on their farm in Bärnau, Germany. The farm fest started with the inauguration of two new buildings for poultry growing. A total of 80,000 animals are housed in the buildings. The facilities contain Big Dutchman poultry housing systems, which guests learned about in detail during an informative tour. The program also included a diversified farmer's market with countless regional specialities, an agricultural technology exhibition and many attractions for young and old alike.

Transparent poultry growing

Bernhard Schedl farms 50 hectares of land, including about seven hectares for raising strawberries and a little more than a half hectare devoted to blueberries. In 2007, he moved from raising dairy cattle to poultry growing.

Thus, as a highlight, the Schedl family offered a live look at poultry growing. On view was the poultry house, erected in 2007, which the farmer had set up with plexiglass panels, so that guests could fully survey the feeding area. Two experts were available all day to provide complete answers to the public's questions.

Earny heat exchangers for the thrift-minded

Interest in poultry housing systems was also remarkable. Above all, the Big Dutchman Earny heat exchangers attracted poultry experts. And for good reason: During the cold season, a poultry house equipped with the Earny can save up to 60 percent on heating costs. A total of three versions can provide the right solution for any common size of poultry house.

They all have the same unique features: Compared to other heat exchangers, Earny is very compact, simple to install, and much easier to maintain. Unique compressed air technology makes it all possible. And the special aluminium exchanger element guarantees an amazingly high rate of heat transfer.

Four new houses for poultry growing with the most modern poultry systems

On the occasion of a convincing Open House, Ronny Lange from Osteroda in Brandenburg (Germany) recently inaugurated his four new houses for poultry growing. Approximately 300 people followed his invitation to visit the imposing farm complex of 200,000 bird places in detail. For the poultry systems, Ronny Lange fully relies on the technology supplied by Big Dutchman.

Poultry systems: Augermatic and FluxX

These four houses are meant to assure Ronny Lange’s farm of a good future. Each of them has a size of 100 times 24 meters. Regarding poultry systems Ronny Lange decided to equip his new houses with two world-wide Big Dutchman classics for poultry growing: each house has five lines of Augermatic feeding, the birds feed from FluxX feed pans. Drinker lines ensure the supply with fresh water round the clock. They can be winched up under the ceiling for cleaning together with the feed pans.

Modern internet technology for use in poultry growing

The core of the system is Big Dutchman’s amacs system, allowing Ronny Lange to control production as well as poultry house climate without any problems. amacs is based on the most modern internet technology. It allows poultry producers to monitor in real time for example the data regarding house temperature or ventilation, but also to check only with a few clicks on feeding or water supply and modify settings if required – all this from virtually any location in the world.

Inauguration of poultry house for free range management (aviary management) in Melle, Germany

Mathias Hoppe from Melle in Lower Saxony (Germany) decided to start egg production on his farm. The young farmer continues his parents Barbara and Hubert Hoppe‘s farm which is also into pig finishing. After six months of construction time the new poultry house for free range egg production has recently been completed. Now approx. 15,000 laying hens are laying their eggs in the pretty building designed for aviary management surrounded by approx. six hectares of leafy hen run. The poultry housing systems including the Natura-Nova Twin aviary was completely supplied by Big Dutchman.

The Hoppe family recently inaugurated their new poultry house with an Open Day presentation and 250 invited guests. The visitors were particularly interested in the Natura-Nova 280 Twin system equipped with some new features – as can be seen further down: For poultry producers and of course all other interested people we have published some photographs of the successful project of economic aviary management.

Poultry house for free range management: The hens have six hectares of hen-run at their disposal. Air is exhausted centrally at the rear end of the house.
Both sides of the poultry house have a winter garden; this way, layers can walk out of the house along the entire length of the annex. According to the guidelines sufficient drinkers with open water are available for the birds.
Economic aviary management: Natura-Nova Twin is part of the flexible Natura modular system, scoring with numerous intelligent creative options: Whether old house or new building, whether a small or a large house, whether barn, free range or organic egg production – thanks to the sophisticated variety of types Big Dutchman aviaries are the right choice, when talking about optimum space utilization and tailor-made solutions.
The visitors showed great interest in the poultry house and the aviary. Big Dutchman sales representative and specialist Heinrich Beckmann (left) answered any questions the visitors had.
New feature: The connection aisle between the nest and the system was enlarged. This is a benefit also for Mathias Hoppe using it for this daily inspection rounds. A typical feature of Natura Nova Twin: The layers can walk over to the nests without problems after drinking or feeding since both areas are on the same level.
Another new feature is the further reinforced and now even safer to step on connection aisles above the portal frame. The Fumus fresh air chimney ensures an optimum house climate, it can be adapted according to the requirements and thus to the respective season by running either only with fresh air or mixed air or circulating air.
Well-thought-out aviary management: Below the portal frame the hens can scratch extensively. But it also has advantages for the farmer: The passage height of 1.91 m facilitates management and checking operations. The passage doors have been changed to open upwards, so that the manure can be removed from the house comfortably by means of a wheel loader.

Modern poultry growing in six new poultry houses

With a successful open day Tobias Winnige recently inaugurated his ultra-modern poultry house project for poultry growing in Letschin (Brandenburg). The six new buildings, all of which were completely equipped by Big Dutchman, offer space to a total of 324,000 broilers. One of the houses was open to visitors, who turned up in large numbers. About 400 visitors seized the opportunity to take a closer look at the poultry house and its equipment fit for 54,000 broilers.

Optimum feed supply in poultry growing

The six new buildings with which Tobias Winnige wants to secure the future of his business for coming generations are about 100 m long and 24 m wide each. For feed supply Tobias Winnige went for a Big Dutchman classic when it comes to poultry growing. Every poultry house is equipped with five lines of the Augermatic feeding system and FluxX feed pans. Fresh water is supplied by drinker lines that can be winched up under the roof together with the feed pans during cleaning.

Controlling and managing poultry houses

The centerpiece of the new operation is the amacs control system that makes it easy to control poultry production and climate in the house. amacs operates based on state-of-the-art internet technology. With amacs, the farm manager is able to retrieve management data such as house temperature or ventilation in real time or check on water supply and make necessary adjustments with just a few mouse clicks, from any place in the world.

The enriched colony system AVECH meets the animal welfare needs in a variety of ways by providing more opportunities for natural behavior.

The second fully enriched colony house on a U.S. egg farm was part of a four house expansion for this Michigan egg producer. Konos expanded by around 700,000 layers with the addition of four poultry houses: three are equipped with enrichable and one with enriched colony systems. The Chinese philosopher, Lao Tzu, said, “A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.” The thousand-mile journey for the U.S. egg industry may be the conversion from traditional cage systems to enriched colony systems (…)

The first step was actually taken by the company JS West with the placement of a flock in the company’s enriched colony systems in July 2010. Please click here for details on a pioneering project.
