Uwe Heider new Member of Management Board

Uwe Heider from Vechta has been appointed Member of the Board of Management of Big Dutchman AG. The 43-year-old is a graduate in business studies and, as of 1 October 2004, will follow in the footsteps of Bo M. Molin who, up until now, has been board member in charge of sales and marketing for the world market leader for housing and feeding equipment from Vechta-Calveslage, Germany.

„With Uwe Heider we have won a highly-qualified marketing specialist with agricultural experience for the Big Dutchman Group“ says Chairman of the Supervisory Board Josef Meerpohl. „I am furthermore very pleased that Bo Molin is going to continue to support us with his experience and advice.“

Even though the 67-year-old Swede is officially retiring from the Board of Management, he will continue to work in the daily business as an advisor for the China business that he built up, as well as for other projects. Thus, there is going to be a fluent handing-over.

Until recently, Uwe Heider was the solely responsible Managing Director of AWE Agrarhandel Weser-Ems GmbH & Co KG in Varel, Germany. Before that, he worked as Sales Manager for National Starch & Chemical GmbH, subsequently as Marketing Director for Beiersdorf AG in Hamburg and thereafter as Managing Director for the Schmees Group in Twistringen.

The Board of Management of Big Dutchman AG is now composed as follows: Bernd Meerpohl (Sales & Development), Uwe Heider (Sales & Marketing), Warren Stuk (Sales/USA), Kai Wehmeyer (Finances, Administration & Logistics).

For many years now, Big Dutchman AG has been regarded as world market leader in the development and distribution of housing equipment and feeding systems for modern pig and poultry management.

The delivery range of the innovative family business includes traditional installations, as well as computer-controlled feeding systems and equipment for climate-control and exhaust air cleaning systems. The scope of supply and services ranges from the build-up of small farms up to the construction of fully-integrated farm businesses. Big Dutchman AG offers its customers every possible option - from planning to taking into operation.

The history of Big Dutchman reaches back to the year 1938 when the company founders invented the world’s first automatic feeder in the USA. Today, the company's headquarter is located in Vechta-Calveslage, Germany, where more than 300 of the approximately 1,000 employees worldwide work. The reliable systems of the well-established German business are successfully used in more than 100 countries on all five continents.

The Big Dutchman Group will have a turnover of approximately 250 million euros in the current financial year. 90% of the sales volume is achieved on markets outside of Germany.

Once again, Big Dutchman has expanded the product line for poultry management and developed a new plastic slat suitable for pullet rearing, broilers, broiler breeders or ducks in houses that are fully covered with slats.

The grid hole spacing (20 x 23 mm) is especially designed for the requirements of young birds in floor management. Curved bars on the upper side of the slats guarantee optimum manure penetration, whereas rounded edges prevent the birds from hurting themselves.

The new Big Dutchman slats have the dimensions 1200 x 500 mm. The assembly is very easy: the slats are simply placed on the manure pit flat steel.

“Equipment for layers in barns and free range production”

Alternative systems for layer management are becoming more and more important in Western Europe, and so several different housing systems have now become available on the market. Besides multi-tier aviary systems, there are also poultry systems with manure pits that are fully or partly covered with slats now available on the market. These systems are clearly arranged and very cost-efficient and are therefore suitable for both small and larger flocks.

In the new leaflet "Equipment for Floor Systems for layers in barns and free range production" Big Dutchman introduces the most important elements of this type of housing equipment: such as reliable systems for feed and water supply, the right laying nest including an egg collection system, as well as labour-saving manure removal systems. The leaflet supplies detailed descriptions and illustrations of all of these elements. In addition three exemplary concepts show options for possible poultry housing systems.

Conclusion: good housing equipment distinguishes itself because all individual parts are carefully coordinated. This is one of the main requirements for healthy and energetic hens and high laying performance. Furthermore, monitoring and management efforts are reduced significantly.

The new six-page publication is immediately available. Just order the leaflet by using our contact form and we will send it by mail without delay. Or have a PDF file sent to you as an e-mail attachment within only a few minutes. Simply select the informative leaflet from our digital library (Products => alternative systems) and indicate your e-mail address.

However, the fastest way to receive this important information about floor systems is a direct download. Simply click on the title of the leaflet with the right mouse button and select "save target as".

The Livestock Farming Suppliers Association (LSA) was founded on June 11, 2004 as a subdivision of the “BFL” (“Bauförderung Landwirtschaft e.V.”). More than 100 companies from five different countries have already joined this internationally active association.

The LSA sees itself as an economic and political representative for manufacturers and trading companies in the farm supplies business. Many well-known companies that supply products and services for cattle, pig and poultry production are members. The LSA was founded with the objective of representing as many companies as possible.

The economic and political responsibilities of the LSA cover legal, economic and technical issues. So key elements of the LSA's work will be a joint policy on trade fairs, the implementation of standards, as well as support for the development and application of methods of keeping animals in ways appropriate to their species.

At its foundation meeting in Vechta, Germany, the LSA elected Magnus Westerkamp, President of HOWEMA, as spokesperson. According to Westerkamp, priority should be given to an active policy on trade fairs and international membership recruitment.
