USA: Enriched colony systems part of Konos‘ expansion

The enriched colony system AVECH meets the animal welfare needs in a variety of ways by providing more opportunities for natural behavior.

The second fully enriched colony house on a U.S. egg farm was part of a four house expansion for this Michigan egg producer. Konos expanded by around 700,000 layers with the addition of four poultry houses: three are equipped with enrichable and one with enriched colony systems. The Chinese philosopher, Lao Tzu, said, “A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.” The thousand-mile journey for the U.S. egg industry may be the conversion from traditional cage systems to enriched colony systems (…)
