20 years of poultry systems at Saudi Agriculture Show

Taking home a big thank you for the long years of loyalty, Big Dutchman area sales manager Khalid Abdelrahman recently returned from Riyadh: For 20 years now, the German equipment supplier has been exhibiting their poultry systems on the Saudi Agriculture poultry show in Saudi-Arabia. A fact which was also recognized in a special ceremony attended by high members of the Saudi-Arabian administration: Together with the Saudi-Arabian agricultural minister Dr. Fahd bin Abdulrahman Balghunaim, Prince Saud Bin Abdallah Al Faisal, member of the Saudi royal family and Chairman of Riyadh Exhibition Center (REC), presented Khalid Abdelrahman with a decorative anniversary award.

The hour of birth of the Saudi Agriculture Show was back in 1981. In the meantime, the most important agricultural show in the Gulf States has developed a great appeal. „We have established many lasting contacts with local poultry producers over the years; our products have an excellent reputation. This is last but not least also due to the Saudi Agriculture Show“. With these words Khalid Abdelrahman thanked the prominent speakers at the award ceremony. Big Dutchman today counts among the leading suppliers of poultry systems in the Gulf region.

The Area Sales Manager from Germany and Saad Abdulmohsin Al-Sahli, CEO of the Big Dutchman agency Al-Sahli Holding
Co. based in Riyadh, were very pleased with the outcome of the show. „Once again we are very happy with the fantastic level of visitor attendance at our booth and the contacts we have made”, Al-Sahli commented on the outcome of this year’s participation.

The Saudi-Arabian agency, managed by Saad Abdulmohsin Al-Sahli already in the second generation, is an old hand with Big Dutchman: For more than 25 years, the experts have been selling housing equipment from the world-wide market leader in Saudi Arabia.

Feeding and housing systems for poultry growing

Two new poultry sheds for 84,000 birds have been inaugurated. The buildings for poultry growing have been equipped with modern housing and feedings systems from Big Dutchman.

Andrea and Norbert Holste have invested in their future with the building of two new poultry sheds upon their farm in Schöppingen, in the district of Borken. Some 300 visitors accepted the invitation of the new farmers to take a closer look at the new sheds, with the Holstes buying all necessary equipment from Big Dutchman.

Impressive poultry sheds

The new building consists of two stalls, each with a size of 20 x 95 metres, and offers places for approximately 84, 000 birds. The feeding system is composed of eight drinking-lines with stainless-steel drinking nipples and four feeding lines: this is the innovative Fluxx feed pan from Big Dutchman, that also employs the 360° flooding mechanism for a high feed level in the day-old chicks. Depending on the age and size of the birds, the entire feed line can be raised, which causes the flood mechanism to automatically close, and which in turn decreases the feed level, so that feed loss is reduced to a minimum.

Healthy poultry climate control

The 16 exhaust air chimneys in each house push the exhaust air towards the outside; these chimneys are built into the ceilings and are ten metres above ground level. Big Dutchman fresh air inlets keep the fresh air supply moving around the house, resulting in a healthy house ventilation system.

Two RGA-100 heating systems per house are able to ensure an optimal poultry house temperature with high energy efficiency in each house. The heating machines work with a closed combustion system, so that the poultry sheds remain free from smoke and harmful gases, which are discharged outdoors through a chimney. The built-in ventilators are able to ensure that there is a good dispersion of air throughout the entire house because of their large range.

In order to ensure a consistently good animal performance even during high summer temperatures, a spray cooling system with stainless-steel nozzles can be employed, and therefore reduces the possibility of heat-stress for the birds. Moreover, the humidity in the house can also be constantly monitored – another plus for this system.

Control feeding systems and climate systems for poultry growing by mouse click

Another important feature in the new sheds is the use of the control system amacs. With this computer-controlled system, Andrea and Norbert Holste can easily control all essential functions in their new sheds – for example, the feeding installations or the poultry climate control system – with only a mouse click.

a
macs works off the basis that network engineering can be combined with modern technology for communication, which enables permanent data acquisition, supervision and control of the two buildings in real time. Therefore, houses can be controlled without any problems, either on the spot, or by remote control, from any location in the world, with either a Windows-PC or even a Smartphone.

The Holstes also had two RGA-100-heating systems installed, in order to guarantee an optimal climate during winter.

André Mofid gives a lecture on poultry production in Yazd, Iran.

The topic of energy efficiency in poultry production is currently playing an increasing role among Iranian poultry producers as the Iranian government is planning to gradually cut back on subsidies. Therefore, Big Dutchman sales manager André Mofid together with Ali Jahedi, the company’s sales representative in Iran, decided to organize conferences throughout Iran to further knowledge on cost-effective poultry production. Thus far over 300 farmers have visited one of these conferences in Qazvin and Hamedan, and now conferences in Shiraz and Yazd have received over 150 visitors.

Best practices for poultry production

Next to the topic of lowering costs in poultry production and, in particular, of energy efficiency, the German expert touched on best practices for efficient broiler growing from hatcheries to the slaughterhouse. In this context, he also provided ample information on suitable equipment, based on the comprehensive expertise the German world market leader has been accumulating through the decades.

„By using complete poultry systems including housing systems, feeding systems and computer-controlled climate control systems, a farmer can save a lot of money in energy and feed, as well as labour costs“, André Mofid explained. The farm managers present were highly interested in detailed information pertaining to this issue. Most attendees were, for instance, not aware of the crucial role an optimum climate control plays in the first five days of a chicken’s life. “I have been in the business for 40 years, but I have never been given such information by anyone”, one of the farmers present stated.

Poultry cage AviMax for broiler growing

The AviMax product family for broiler growing turned out to be of particular interest to the participants. The scope of different system types of AviMax is considerable: no matter whether broilers are to be housed in an icy or subtropical climate, whether it concerns an old building or plans for a new building, or whether a building is rather tall or very small: Big Dutchman offers custom-fit, economic solutions for all needs.

In addition to the proven and tested climate solutions, the housing equipment supplier has furthermore developed a ventilation system which ensures an optimal house climate especially in regions with very warm weather.
The results are optimum stocking densities while providing maximum headroom in the bird area, lower building and energy costs as well as optimum air exchange throughout the entire barn.
